Yesterday, Kim was scheduled to be induced at 8:00 A.M. yesterday. The doctor started her off with a shot of prostaglandin gel. She immediately started having painful contractions that came about every five minutes. In the meantime, Kim's sister Theresa arrived at the hospital to hang out until Michael was delivered and keep the family updated.

By 12:30, Kim was calling for an epidural, and the hospital gladly obliged. After the epidural, Kim chilled out for a couple hours, still having regular contractions, but feeling nothing but tingling in her feet. By 3:30 P.M., the nurse made Kim start pushing. And she had me assist Kim, by holding up one of her legs and supporting her head. I got a little more involved than I thought I would!

After about 1 1/2 hours, the doctor came in to check on Michael and discovered that he was coming in face up, which was delaying the delivery. So, then the delivery turned into the kind you usually see on television, with the doctors and nurses, and forceps, and blue tarp everywhere. While Kim pushed, the doctor gently manuevered Michael's head around so he could get through Kim's pelvis. It only took Kim two rounds of pushing for Michael's head to pop out! The doctor pulled him out and showed him to his mama for the first time, and Kim started crying.

Then I cut the umbilical cord and the nurses took Michael over to the baby station to suction all the fluid out of him and clean him up. While this was going on, the doctor took care of Kim and got her cleaned up. Theresa then came in to hang out with Michael and take some pictures. After a couple hours, Kim and Michael the Baby were moved up to their own room, where Michael attempted to feed for a few hours. Kim's brother Chris came by to visit Kim and the baby later in the night. After Chris left, Michael got his first bath, which calmed him down tremendously, and he fell asleep around 11 pm. Kim fell asleep shortly thereafter.

Both baby and mama are doing very well. The delivery went as well as we could have hoped. The doctors and nurses here at Baylor hospital are on top of their game.

Thank you to everyone for their continued love and support. We will be posting more updates in the next few days, including some baby video!

Love,

Mike and Kim
