A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall

Friday night, the family drove down to San Antonio for Grandma Garza's 80th birthday party on Saturday. "Drove" might not be the most accurate word though, because, although we were in a car on the highway, the rain that fell all night turned the road into a river. It didn't get much better for the drive home on Saturday night. Here are some quick statistics:

Total miles driven: 564

Drive time: 9 hours 45 minutes

% Time Raining: 90%

At one point in Waxahachie, TX we had to pull off the highway onto the access road to wait because we couldn't see anything in front of us. We also were diverted on the access road by an accident that stretched across both sides of the highway. 35E (S) also has many sections where there was no shoulder on either side, giving you no recourse if you happened to skid on the road.

Any time we thought there would be a break in the action, it just kept coming. The radar could not keep up with the movement of the system. It was the ultimate in white-knuckle driving. It was easily the worst conditions I have ever driven in.

As of right now, it is still raining in Dallas-- it may subside later tonight. After a summer with possibly 3 major storms, this weekend's weather was both unexpected and inconvenient.
